Palo Santo, or “Holy Wood,” is a natural, aromatic incense wood that has been used for millennia by the Incas and the peoples of the Andes as a spiritual tool. Similar to white sage, it is typically used for cleansing/purification, banishing harmful spirits and bad luck, as well as for medicinal purposes. Its delicate citrus scent is accompanied by the fragrance of its close relative, frankincense. It is often used in shamanic rituals and ceremonies.

How to use it? Light one end of the wood over a candle flame, then shake out the flame so that it only smolders and produces smoke. You can place the smoldering wood on a metal dish or walk around the space you wish to cleanse. If left on the dish, the ember usually extinguishes within 1-2 minutes. However, this time is sufficient to fill the room with the smoke of Palo Santo. When relighting, tap off the 1-2 mm of ash that forms on the end of the Palo Santo, and it will be ready to light again. One piece of wood is enough for approximately 15-25 uses!
